2004 to 2008
The Back series are portraits of real individuals mounted on, and facing, the wall. Like the earlier work, they are reliefs, sculpted in a progressive compression. Because they are facing the wall, the faces become progressively flattened to the point of disappearing into an imagined picture plane.
Accompanying photographs have been produced in conjunction with these sculptures in order to highlight the “pictorial” idea.
